stockpiling

Do you do this... Whats your reason?
In the last year I have started slowly building up a stockpile. My reason for starting was that hubby had hurt his back and while he was covered under work cover the pay he got of them was close to half of what his usual pay was. It made me realise if i had had a well stocked cupboard we would of been fine at least food wise. How I have built up my stockpile is every time I go shopping I buy something extra that we don't need  and slowly what we have has built up I also rotate it all regularly.
Today I decided to give my cupboards a tidy up an it got me thinking about the reasons people keep a stock pile. I do also have a small container of emergency stuff I have stocked pile, such as wind-up torches, heavy duty tape, zip ties, water, candles, matches etc.

I also have two 20 ltr buckets, one with white flour and the other with wholemeal.
I have found that since I started stockpiling, I have also started buying more things in bulk and this has helped me save more money, overall I spend around $300 less a month then I was a yr ago.

Tissue pom poms  larger then life and super easy to make.

Bargains

Who doesn't love a good bargain. My mum scored the figurine's and plates at my neighbours garage sale for the grand total of $5. We had left early to go to the pool, so didn't go over till when we got back which was after 2 o'clock so we missed out on lots. But I did get all the books at another garage sale for $4. And all the awesome fruit I got at my local fruit and veg shop, the dearest was the cherry's at $4.99 KG, the nectarines were $1.99kg the watermelons were$2 ea and the peaches were $12.99 for a tray (4 kg). I got 3 kg of the nectarines an I have already turned a kg into fruit roll ups.

Feeling inspired

To try new flour in bread I used a high protein flour an added around 30% spelt flour

Beets inspired by here an wow are they yummy I normally just roast beets and eat in salad but this way would have to be Alyras favourite shes nearly finished of one jar already. I didn't really go of a recipe i baked the beets the peeled and then chopped then. Then I in a pot i added two cups of vinegar 1 cup of sugar, spoon of mustard seeds, spoon of five spice and simmered for 5 Min's then I poured over the beets. It is sweet kinda like canned beetroot, I think that's why Alyra loves it so much.

Shopping at Bibina I got lots of flours, spelt, wholemeal and high protein. I also got some bulk baking powered, a new cocoa powder to try, couscous, quinoa and feta made from sheep's milk oh a bit too many teas.

Finding giggling kids under the mulberry tree I couldn't help but take a photo but I wasn't too impressed as Lincoln was in his school cloths and it was cold and raining so of to the bath they were sent.
